Day 30 - Morning of the Living Dead

Monday 5 August 2019

Can’t say I ever expected to share the breakfast table with the Living Dead, but there you have it. You see the most extraordinary sights at the High Chapparal.

We have decided to spend our final night of the tour in Bruges. We’ve both been before so don’t need to do the full tourist thing but it is handy for the ferry from Zeebrugge and we fancy a night in a hotel to finish off the tour.

We ride north up the N4 to Namur. This road has been much improved over the last few years and a lot of the concrete sections have been replaced by smooth tarmac. It is a pleasure to ride.

At Namur we start along the motorway towards Brussels but it is very windy and busy so after a while we divert onto side roads for a while.
But it is rarely a good idea to take small roads in Belgium. Every town is a slow drag and the road surfaces are truly horrible. So eventually it’s back onto the motorway for the final run into Bruges.

The Lace Hotel in Bruges

I use the Booking.com app to find accommodation somewhere fairly central and it comes up with the Lace Hotel on t’Zand square. Sounds rather Yorkshire and has a twin room on offer for €70. We park t’bikes in t’square outside and check in.

Old Bruges bar

There are lots of things to do in Bruges and one of them is drinking lots of Belgian beer. So this is the one we opt for, making sure we snap a few photos of the lovely old buildings in the central area to prove we are proper tourists.
